Wanted: Trustees for Full Fact
Full Fact is looking for two new trustees to help guide, oversee, and support Full Fact’s work, including one trustee to chair our editorial sub-group.
Bad information ruins lives. It promotes hate, damages people’s health, and hurts democracy. This is an opportunity to help lead a charity that has helped millions of people access good, clear information at a time of global disruption—while growing our team from 11 staff members to 34 in the past three years.
Full Fact’s work has impact. We have seen corrections from a Prime Minister and other senior politicians, newspapers, and broadcasters. We have seen government departments and national media outlets change how they work. Our team has worked with the BBC, ITV, and Sky; Facebook and Google; the Office for National Statistics and leading universities. All of this begins with high-quality fact checking on topics that matter to real people.
The Board meets four times a year, and we have four specialist sub-groups which can include trustees and other volunteers covering editorial, communications, technology and finance, which meet between Board meetings. Specific editorial and operational decisions are the responsibility of the staff and not of Trustees.
As a Trustee you will work closely with fellow volunteers and staff to make important decisions about Full Fact’s work and direction, and advise and support our team in doing the best work possible.
Due to the recent retirement of some of our Trustees at the end of their terms, we are looking for at least one new trustee with significant editorial or journalistic experience and an understanding of both traditional and new media journalism, who will become chair of our editorial sub-group.
It is vital that Full Fact’s Board overall reflects the diversity of views and experiences in modern political debate. Individual Trustees may be, but are not expected to be, politically impartial and we welcome expressions of interest from anyone who shares our commitment to promoting high quality public debate.
Trustees are asked to commit to a three year term, and may serve for a maximum of three terms. Our aim is to welcome two new members onto the Board in July.
To express your interest
Please upload a covering letter explaining your interest and relevant skills and experience, and a CV.
Please note that inviting someone to become a trustee or sub-group member is a decision for the trustees alone. The Board is the principal guarantor of the independence and impartiality of Full Fact’s work and holds the staff to account, so the staff’s role in recruiting trustees is only to facilitate the process.
Applications close at 10am on Monday 28 June 2021
