Location

Hybrid with 2 days in our London office or attending in-person meetings with stakeholders. We are a remote-first (within the UK) organisation. We work primarily from home but also have an office available in Central London. Given this role involves meeting with stakeholders, you can expect to travel to the office or other locations in London at least twice a week.

Introduction to the role

Full Fact fights bad information. We’re recruiting for a Policy Manager (Misinformation) to maximise our influence over how government and public bodies address the harms of bad information.

Reporting to Full Fact’s Policy Lead, the role will be pivotal in shaping and advocating for Full Fact’s policy positions and achieving real-world change through legislation and regulatory frameworks. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of technology, misinformation, digital skills and artificial intelligence. You will be responsible for policy development and outreach on Full Fact’s work on the Online Safety Act, media literacy and promoting our work on Artificial Intelligence with decision makers. 

The role holder will balance both the policy development and the policy outreach, holding relationships with a variety of stakeholders across Parliament, Whitehall and civil society partners.

Full Fact’s work has an impact. We obtain corrections from Prime Ministers, other senior politicians and MPs. We influence policy and practice on online misinformation and related issues. We drive forward solutions to misinformation rooted in evidence, including from our fact checking. Recent policy wins include securing a House of Commons procedure change so that all MPs can correct the record, and legislative changes in the Online Safety Bill to improve media literacy, including on misinformation.

What we are looking for from you

• You are committed to the political neutrality of our work and have a good understanding of impartiality (please see the rules on our website).

• Understanding of public debate in the UK and sensitivity to the political context we work in.

• Experience working with or building relationships with parliamentarians to achieve change

• Proven ability to be effective and persuasive with senior decision makers or policy makers including MPs

• A good working knowledge of the misinformation policy landscape

• Experience of developing policy positions.

• Strong analytical and research skills with a keen eye for detail

• Ability to develop and maintain relationships with partner organisations in all sectors, including challenging them when necessary

• Experience working with senior decision makers

• Ability to communicate persuasively in person and in writing, including on technical matters and on points of principle

What we offer

Starting salary of £41,000 - £44,000 per annum depending on experience.

The interview panel will be Full Fact’s Policy Lead, Head of Communications and Policy and another member of staff who you will work with in this role.

The process starts off with an anonymised covering letter and CV. This will be read by at least two people to produce a shortlist for the interview.

The first round interviews will be a phone (not video) interview, lasting no more than half an hour, at a time that’s convenient for you. We will record it so at least two people can review each interview to decide who we invite back for the second round. The recordings will be deleted at the end of the process.

The second round will include a structured interview and a timed task which assumes no prior knowledge. The task can be completed prior to the interview, at a time that most suits you. 

The interview will be with the full panel by video and last no more than an hour. We’ll tell you everything you need to know to prepare, including anything we’d recommend reading in advance.
